Step-by-step guides with pictures: for guests and for hosts. Can’t find what you need? Write to support@snugtalk.com.
The basics
What is SnugTalk?
A place to talk with a real person, live, by the minute. You pick a host and a topic and start a video, voice or text session. You can also join a focus room to work or study alongside a host on camera.
Is this therapy?
No. Hosts are friendly, curious people, not therapists, doctors or lawyers, and they won’t act like it. If you’re in crisis in the US, call or text 988.
Is SnugTalk a dating app?
No. Romantic, sexual or flirtatious interaction isn’t allowed anywhere on SnugTalk. See the Community Guidelines.
Who can join?
Guests: adults 18 and older in the United States during our launch. Hosts: adults 18 and older anywhere PayPal can pay them; hosts outside the US fill in IRS Form W-8BEN. Creating an account is free, and there’s no subscription.
Is there an app?
SnugTalk works in any modern browser. On your phone you can install it to your home screen: in Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen; in Chrome tap Install. It then opens like an app.
Calls and focus slots
How do I start a call?
Add money to your wallet, open a host who is online, pick what you'd like (a text chat, a video talk, a second opinion, language practice or a focus slot) and tap the button. You need enough balance for at least two paid minutes to start. A text chat can switch to video at any point. If the host doesn't answer, you aren't charged. Step by step: the guide for guests.
What if the host I want is offline?
Tick Online now in Find a host to see who can take a call this minute. Hosts marked Available aren't on the page but get an alert on their phone, so they often pick up. Once you've had a call with someone, you can also send them a message.
Can I try it for free?
Yes, once. Tap Try a free 2-minute call on the home page or in Find a host: it rings whoever is free right now. No account is needed, and your camera stays off (they hear you, you see them). After that, the first minute of every call is free.
What is a focus slot?
Twenty minutes on camera with a host while you each work on your own thing. The first two minutes are for saying what you'll do, then microphones go off until the last two minutes, when you say what you got done. A slot has one price for the whole 20 minutes, and many hosts offer it for free.
What do I need?
A stable internet connection, a camera and a microphone. Headphones help.
Are calls recorded?
No. We don’t record video or voice. Text messages are stored so you can read them later.
Paying
How does paying by the minute work?
You top up a wallet first (from $10). During a call the meter shows time and cost. The first minute is free; after that you pay the host’s rate, prorated to the second. The meter stops when the call ends.
Example: 12 minutes 48 seconds at $0.80/min = 11:48 billed after the free minute = $9.44.
How do I pay?
With PayPal, or with a debit or credit card processed securely by PayPal. You don’t need a PayPal account to pay by card. A payment processing fee (3.49% + 49¢) is added at checkout, so the full amount you pick lands in your balance. We never see your full card number.
What happens when my balance runs low during a call?
We warn you about two minutes before it runs out. You can top up without hanging up. If the balance reaches zero, the call ends.
Can I get a refund?
Unused balance can be refunded within 30 days of purchase (the processing fee isn't refundable). If a session had a technical problem or the host broke the rules, report it within 7 days. Details in Refunds & Disputes.
A host asked me to pay outside SnugTalk. What should I do?
Don’t pay. End the session and report the host. Off-platform payment requests are a serious violation, and you lose every protection we offer.
Hosting
Who can become a host?
Adults 18+ anywhere in the world who enjoy conversation: good listeners, people with life experience to share, language speakers, study buddies. We review every profile by hand before it goes live, and payouts go to a PayPal account in your own name. Hosts outside the US fill in IRS Form W-8BEN (US hosts: Form W-9) before their first payout. Curious first? Tell us about yourself.
How much do hosts earn?
You set your own prices: per minute for chats and talks, one price per focus slot, or free. SnugTalk keeps a 20% platform fee, and you earn 80% of what guests pay.
How do payouts work?
Connect a PayPal account in your own legal name and upload your tax form in your Wallet, then withdraw once you have $5 available. Payouts are sent within 7 business days. Read the Host Agreement and the guide for hosts.
What photos should I use?
A recent, well-lit photo of just you, face clearly visible, head and shoulders, in portrait format. No heavy filters, no revealing clothing.
Do I have to pay taxes?
Yes, hosts are independent contractors. Before your first payout you upload a tax form in your Wallet: Form W-9 if you're a US citizen or resident, Form W-8BEN otherwise. We send a Form 1099 to US hosts when US law requires it.
Safety and privacy
How do I report someone?
During a call, tap Report in the bar at the top; after a call, use “Report a problem” on the summary. You can block the person in the same step. For urgent safety issues email support@snugtalk.com with “Safety” in the subject.
Can I block someone?
Yes. A blocked person can’t see your profile, call you or message you.
What do hosts see about me?
Your display name and anything you choose to say. Never your email, payment details or location.
How do I delete my account?
Open Account and use Delete account at the bottom, or email support@snugtalk.com. See the Privacy Policy for what we keep and why.
Technical questions
I signed up with Google or PayPal. Can I also use a password?
Yes. On the sign-in page tap Forgot password and enter your email: the link lets you set a password. From then on, Google, PayPal and your password all open the same account. You can see and add sign-in methods in Account → Sign-in methods.
Will signing in with Google or PayPal create a second account?
Not if it's the same email: we connect it to your existing account automatically (PayPal needs the email to be confirmed with PayPal). If your Google or PayPal uses a different email, sign in the usual way first and connect it in Account → Sign-in methods.
Why do I have to confirm my email?
Usually you don't. We ask only when an account is created over a VPN, Tor or a data center connection, which is how most fake accounts are made. Open the link we emailed you; calls and payments open right after.
Which devices and browsers work?
Any recent Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox on a computer, an iPhone or an Android phone. For calls you need a camera and a microphone (for a text chat, neither). Headphones make voices clearer.
My camera or microphone doesn't work.
Allow the camera and microphone for snugtalk.com: click the camera or lock icon next to the address. Close other apps that may be using them (Zoom, Teams, another tab). Hosts can check everything at Test mic & camera.
The call dropped. Am I still charged?
If you or the host drop out, there are 30 seconds to rejoin from the same page. If nobody comes back, the call ends and billing stops at the moment of the drop.
The free try says it isn't available.
It's one free call per person and per internet connection, and it doesn't work over a VPN or Tor. It also needs someone online: if nobody is, try again a bit later.
Hosts: how do I get call alerts on my iPhone?
iPhone shows website notifications only for installed apps. In Safari tap Share → Add to Home Screen, open SnugTalk from the new icon, and turn on alerts on your dashboard. Connecting Telegram works too. Details in the guide for hosts.
Hosts: why did I go offline by myself?
If your SnugTalk page stops responding for two minutes (browser closed, phone locked, network gone), we set you offline so guests don't call someone who can't answer. Open SnugTalk again and you're back online.
